Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on issues relating to Xinjiang(4)
2022-06-21 23:26

Question: What is the true state of development of minority population in Xinjiang?

Spokesperson: Over the past 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the population of Xinjiang has seen rapid growth, better education and rising life expectancy. This is a remarkable achievement that testifies to Xinjiang’s development and prosperity under the CPC leadership.

In 2020, the population of ethnic minorities in the region reached14.932 million, registering an average annual growth of 1.41%. This was 1.9463 million more than that in 2010.

The Uyghur population in the region increased from 8.3456 million in 2000 to 11.6243 million in 2020, with an average annual growth of 1.67%, much higher than the national ethnic minority population growth of 0.83%in the same period of time.

The population growth in Xinjiang is unparalleled in history and undeniable to any one who respects the truth. Lies fabricated by anti-China forces, such as "genocide" in Xinjiang, have no factual or legal basis. In fact, they havebeen used as a tool of manipulation by anti-China politicians to mislead the international community and incite confrontation with the ultimate goal of containing China's development and pursuing their political self-interests. Thismalicious attempt has been opposed and deplored by more and more righteous people across the world and is doomed to fail.
