Question: The UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs tweeted recently  that the UK supports the Netherlands' statement on behalf of the relevant countries at the UN Human Rights Council, criticising China on "human rights violations" in Xinjiang and Tibet. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: This official, instead of mustering the courage to face and reflect on the UK side's problematic human rights records and recent measures that have drawn wide criticism, has kept on smearing China and other countries in an attempt to divert public attention. We express our strong opposition to this. With regard to the China-bashing remarks made by a few Western countries, including Netherlands, at the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Chinese delegation attending the session has made a solemn response. The lies fabricated and spread by these countries cannot change the basic fact that China has made enormous achievements in its human right cause, or shake the firm commitment of the Chinese people to their own path of human rights development. The best proof of this is that nearly 100 countries at the UNHRC have once again made their voice heard to uphold justice and support China's legitimate position. We urge the UK side to correct its long-standing problem of holding double standards on the human rights issue, reflect on and address its own human rights violations, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs under any pretext.
