Question: On June 4th, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the UK Liz Truss tweeted about the June 4th incident, claiming that the UK will never forget that part of history and will continue to “stand up for those who defend freedom and human rights in China”. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: The above comment by this UK official confused right and wrong and was made deliberately to discredit China, which China strongly opposes. As for the political turbulence happened at the end of the 1980s, the Chinese Government has already reached a definitive conclusion. China remains committed to the development path of its own choice and has made remarkable achievement in developing democracy and safeguarding human rights. This has won the wholehearted support of the Chinese people and the full recognition of the international community. We are fully confident in our democratic system and human rights development path. Speaking of history and human rights, the UK officials should seriously reflect on the disasters and sufferings the UK inflicted on the peoples of other countries in the past and how to correct their own human rights violations at home. We urge the UK to observe the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, refrain from pointing fingers at other countries and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.
