Question: It is reported that during her visit to the Czech Republic, the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Liz Truss blamed China of "disinformation" and "economic coercion", and continued to clamor for helping Taiwan "defend itself". What is your comment? Embassy spokesperson: Recently this UK politician has kept distorting facts, discrediting China and fanning up confrontation. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn such political provocations. China always acts in an open and fair manner. We decide our policies and positions in accordance with the merits of the matter itself. It is a handful of Western countries which have been spreading disinformation against China. The above- mentioned UK politician, confusing right and wrong and flinging slanders on China, is a typical spreader of disinformation. It has always been China's position that countries should handle relations with each other under the principles of mutual respect, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit. We value friendship as well as principles and never impose "coercion" to other countries. It is the UK which should reflect on how it coerced others around the world over the years. China is a peace-loving country. We remain firm in safeguarding our national sovereignty, security and development interests. Any challenge to the one-China principle on the Taiwan question by any one or any force is making an enemy of over 1.4 billion Chinese people and will meet the firm opposition and strong counteraction by the Chinese side. We urge the UK politicians to stop the manipulation of the Taiwan question, stop creating trouble and sowing discord in the world, earnestly keep to their pledge on the one-China principle, and refrain from going further down the dangerous road.
