Chinese Embassy in the UK introduces Global Security Initiative in a UNA Harpenden Event

On 30 July 2022, Counsellor Feng Jialiang and other diplomats from the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended an online event held by the United Nations Association (UNA) Harpenden and introduced the Global Security Initiative (GSI). Mr. Suheil Shahryar, Chair of UNA Harpenden, moderated the event, with over 20 audience attending online.

Focusing on the initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, Counsellor Feng explained the GSI’s practical significance and its relevance to our times, China’s diplomatic practice, and the implementation of the GSI’s main propositions and policy goals. He pointed out that the GSI provides the ways and means to bridge the global peace deficit and solve the global security dilemma, and therefore is a globally open product of security provided by China to the world. Counsellor Feng and his colleagues took questions from the audience regarding China’s political system, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Taiwan question, and the situation in Ukraine, etc. They particularly explained China’s position on Taiwan, stressing that China will resolutely safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its core interests.

The event was successful in helping the audience better understand the GSI. UNA Harpenden isopen toengagements in the future to provide further understanding of the principles and policies of China’s diplomacy.

Established in 1947, UNA Harpenden is a grassroot organization in the UK supporting the goals and charter of the United Nations. It has a current number of more than 200 members.
