Chargé d'Affaires a.i.Yang Xiaoguang Meets Online with Afghanistan Ambassador to the UK Zalmai Rassoul
2021-03-11 22:47

On 10 March, Chargé d'Affaires a.i.Yang Xiaoguang had a video conversation with new Afghanistan Ambassador to the UK Zalmai Rassoul.

Yang welcomed Ambassador Rassoul to the UK, saying that China and Afghanistan are strategic cooperation partners, and China always respects the sovereignty, independence, and national dignity of Afghanistan. In November 2020 at the 20th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, President Xi Jinping reiterated the importance of the situation in Afghanistan to the regional security and stability, and China’s willingness to help Afghanistan to achieve peace and reconstruction. China attaches great importance to enhancing cooperation with Afghanistan in business, infrastructure and energy development, etc., and actively promoting the interconnection and intercommunication between Afghanistan and the region within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. China will do its best to help Afghanistan with its economic and social development. Yang hoped that the two Embassies will strengthen communication, so as to contribute more to the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Rassoul agreed with Yang’s positive remarks about China-Afghanistan relationship, saying that China is a key neighbor to Afghanistan. He thanked China for its positive role in supporting the peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan. He hoped that the two countries would step up cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms, such as the UN, and the Afghanistan Embassy is looking forward to strengthening communication with the Chinese Embassy in the UK.

Chargé d'Affaires a.i.Yang also shared information with him on China’s Two Sessions and the outcomes of China’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
