Minister Ma Hui Attends Global Soft Power Summit 2021 on-line and Delivers Speech
2021-02-26 18:16

On 25 February, Minister Ma Hui attended the online Global Soft Power Summit 2021 hosted in London and delivered a speech, sharing with the participants China's vision and proposals with reflection on China's Covid-19 response, cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, and Chinese brand building. The Summit was chaired by David Haigh, founder and CEO of Brand Finance, and attended by over 1000 guests, including Hilary Clinton, former Secretary of State of the United States, David Miliband, former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK, Professor Joseph Nye of Harvard University, Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister of Sweden, George Yeo, former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, and other representatives from various sectors.

Minister Ma noted that in the face of the sudden outbreak of Covid-19, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Government put the people at the centre of all their work and give top priority to the safety and health of the people, adopted the most comprehensive and strict prevention and control measures in a timeliest manner, and brought the pandemic under control in a relatively short period of time. On top of that, China also shouldered its responsibilities for global public health and worked with other countries to build a global community of health for all. China has kept its promise to make China's vaccines public goods for the world and improve accessibility and affordability of vaccines in developing countries.

"As of today, China has provided vaccine aid to 53 developing countries who have requested assistance. China has decided to provide 10 million doses of Chinese vaccine to COVAX to meet the urgent need in developing countries," Ma added.

Minister Ma pointed out, China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative in the spirit of wide consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. Over the past 7 years since its launching, the BRI has not only become the biggest platform for international cooperation, but also an important platform to deliver the vision proposed by President Xi Jinping of building a community with a shared future for mankind. China has signed cooperation documents with 140 countries and 31 international organizations, with partners spreading out on 5 continents. In countries along BRI routes, China has set up 82 overseas economic and trade cooperation zones, which have attracted investment of $41 billion and paid $4.3 billion in tax to host countries.

Minister Ma said, China regards innovation as the primary driving force for development, boosting many well-known Chinese brands around the world in recent years. In 2021, China will begin implementing the 14th Five Year Plan and embark on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in all aspects.

"We will open up our market in more sectors and at a deeper level. And we will promote international cooperation and work for win-win results," said Ma in closing.

Mr. Haigh and the others at the Summit spoke highly of China's miracle in economic and social development over the past 70 plus years. They are convinced that, as China's international status and influence increases day by day, China will play an even more important and leading role in brand building and innovative development in the future and strengthen exchanges with other countries across the world.
