On July 14, 2010, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and British Foreign Secretary William Hague held the China-Britain strategic dialogue in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on the international situation and the long-term, strategic and global issues of bilateral relations.

Dai said that at present economic globalization grows rapidly, world multi-polarization is irresistible, huge changes take place in the political, economic and cultural sectors and the world has become a community of interwoven interest. In this world of interdependence, especially against the background of international financial crisis, all countries, big countries in particular should comply with trend of the times, emancipate mind, seek truth from facts and keep progress with the times. They should pursue a wise and visionary diplomatic policy and share sincere and in-depth views on the major issues of the world and the bilateral relations through strategic dialogue and frank exchanges in order to enhance mutual understanding and trust, increase common consensus, expand common interest, reduce frictions, promote cooperation and realize common development and prosperity. China, as a developing country, will be committed to seeking development and unswervingly follow the road of peaceful development. He expressed hope that both sides can push forward cooperation in all fields through the strategic dialogue and make contributions to world peace and development.

Hague said that Britain and China hold many identical views on the direction of the world and the international situation. A successful diplomatic policy must be based on a successful economic policy. The world today is heading toward multi-polarization and interconnection, countries have greater interdependence than ever before and all actors are playing a role and influence each other. We should open wider and develop the diversified trade and cultural relations. Multilateral organizations like the UN and G20 should play a better role and at the same time countries should strengthen bilateral relations. The new British government is dedicated to strengthening relations with all countries in the world, especially the emerging powers. It regards China's development as an opportunity and is willing to become a strong strategic partner of China. In the next 5 years, it will step up strategic partnership with China and promote the growth of both countries and the world at large. The British side expects to have in-depth strategic dialogue with China, exchange opinions on the international situation and the long-term trend of bilateral relations, expand common ground, properly handle differences and reinforce cooperation.
